How do you cast those votes? Why, with our lovely voting application that we introduced last year! Nothing has changed since then, but Iâm sure youâll appreciate a refresher on how to use it. First, go to the following website: http://meepleschoice.win. Youâll see five menu headers at the top right of the screen. If you created an account last year, click on âSign Inâ. Youâll be prompted for your Login (that is, your Username) and your Password. Put both of those in and youâll be ready to cast votes. If you donât remember your password, click on the Forgot Password? prompt and weâll get your password back out to you. If you donât have an account, click on "Sign Up" and you'll be asked to create a Username, provide your Email address, and create a Password. You can also log in using either your Google or Facebook accounts. Once you've filled out the fields, click on the Sign Up button and you'll be entered into the database.
Once youâre logged in, you can vote by going to the Home screen. There are two big buttons there, labelled âVoteâ and âSee Resultsâ. Clicking on the âSee Resultsâ button wonât show you anything, âcause we havenât voted on nothinâ yet! (Iâve hidden the 2015 results for now, since I figured that would just confuse matters.) So the button you want to click on is the Vote one. Doing so will show you a screen with all 193 games listed. To the left of each game is a green button that says âAdd vote (10)â. To vote for a game, click on the button. The button will turn red and say âRemove voteâ. That shows that you voted for it. Also note that all the other green buttons now have a (9) in parentheses, to show that you only have nine votes left. If you want to change your vote, just click on a red button; it will change back to green and it, and all the other green buttons will have their parenthetical values increased by 1. Once youâve voted for 10 games, the text on the other games will change to âvote limitedâ and those buttons will be disabled, keeping you from voting for an eleventh game. The only way you can add a new game is by removing your vote for one of the games youâd selected.
That's it. There's no button to register your final vote, because the system records your votes automatically as you vote for games. The app remembers your votes after you leave the screen and/or logout. When you return to the application, you'll see all the choices you've previously made. Because there's no formal way to finalize your vote, make sure you're happy with the selections on the screen before the voting deadline comes and I shut down the voting.
Thereâs one other thing Iâd like everyone to do. At the bottom of the voting page, youâll see a question about your preference for letting other users see how you voted. If you donât mind having your votes be public, select the first choice; if youâd rather your votes be private, select the second one. Once all the voting is over, weâll be able to click on a game and see the usernames of the people who voted for it, but only among those who selected the first option. That will let folks check out how their fellow spielfrieks voted, while still honoring the privacy of those who would rather their votes remain secret.
By the way, for now, just ignore the sentence at the very top of the voting page that states whether or not your votes are public. That was something was added last year, with the goal of giving the voters an easy way to toggle their preference, but it hasnât been implemented yet and isnât tied to how you vote on the question at the bottom of the page. So just make your choice on the question at the bottom and if we can, weâll add the toggle feature at the top of the voting pages later on.
Iâll give everyone a week for the first round of voting, so sometime on Monday, July 3, Iâll shut down the voting. Then Iâll announce what the nominated games are and weâll continue with the final round of voting.
If there are any questions about the application, just post them here. Have fun voting!
