Let’s finish up our 10 year retrospectives with 2005. That year, we nominated 24 games. The three games that tied for 25th weren’t part of the ballot, but they would have been by our current rules, so I’ll include them as well. So here’s the list:

Antike

Ark

Arkham Horror

Beowulf

Caylus

China

Das Ende des Triumvirats

Diamant

Elasund

Fjords

Hacienda

Hey! That's my Fish!

Il Principe

Indonesia

Kreta

Louis XIV

Manila

Palazzo

Poison

Railroad Tycoon/Railways of the World

Roma

Shadows over Camelot

Ticket to Ride: Europe

Tower of Babel

Twilight Struggle

Ubongo

Vegas Showdown

Note that the game that was nominated that year was Railroad Tycoon. Railways of the World, which, like Railroad Tycoon, is a spinoff of Age of Steam, came out in 2009. Because of the similarity of the two designs, the powers that be at the Geek decided at some point to combine the two games into one entry. Whether you agree with that decision or not, it has led many to view the two titles as one entity, so I thought it would be best to combine them for the purposes of this vote. So if you think that either RT or RotW is one of the three best games from the above list, you should probably vote for it. Or not; as always, I leave criteria for how you vote up to each individual member.

I checked out other popular 2005 titles and came up with the following games. If anyone seconds them, they’ll be added to the list:

Twilight Imperium (3rd edition)

Glory to Rome

Descent

Nexus Ops

Wits & Wagers

Finally, as we’ve done for the other years, we’ll accept nominations for any other 2005 games. Any designs that get a nomination and a second will be added.

I’ll let folks make nominations and seconds for the next couple of days and will then set up the ballot sometime on Wednesday and open up the voting. I’m going to keep doing this as long as folks are interested, so let’s keep on keepin’ on!

I'll second Glory to Rome! I also like Wits & Wagers, but it definitely
wouldn't be in my top three for this year, so I dunno if that should count
as a second.

Lots of good games on that list! It'll be tough to pick only 3.

(And my first two choices would be _Die Dolmengötter_ and _1846_; though
it's unlikely that either would make a lot of noise in the poll.)

Yeah, I thought that Dave was being overly pessimistic about 1846's popularity!

Hard to believe Pickomino wasn't nominated back then.  I'll nominate it now.  I must say, this is an overall weak year for me.  Lots of games I like, but with the exception of '46, nothing I love.

Subject: [spielfrieks] 2005 Retrospective Nominations

Let’sfinish up our 10 year retrospectives with 2005. That year, we nominated 24 games. The three games that tied for 25th weren’t part of the ballot, but theywould have been by our current rules, so I’ll include them as well.  So here’s the list: AntikeArkArkhamHorrorBeowulfCaylusChinaDas Endedes TriumviratsDiamantElasundFjordsHaciendaHey!That's my Fish!IlPrincipeIndonesiaKretaLouis XIVManilaPalazzoPoisonRailroadTycoon/Railways of the WorldRomaShadowsover CamelotTicket toRide: EuropeTower ofBabelTwilightStruggleUbongoVegasShowdown Note thatthe game that was nominated that year was Railroad Tycoon.  Railways of the World, which, like RailroadTycoon, is a spinoff of Age of Steam, came out in 2009.  Because of the similarity of the two designs, the powers that be at the Geek decided at some point to combine the two gamesinto one entry.  Whether you agree withthat decision or not, it has led many to view the two titles as one entity, soI thought it would be best to combine them for the purposes of this vote.  So if you think that either RT or RotW is oneof the three best games from the above list, you should probably vote forit.  Or not; as always, I leave criteriafor how you vote up to each individual member. I checkedout other popular 2005 titles and came up with the following games.  If anyone seconds them, they’ll be added tothe list: TwilightImperium (3rd edition)Glory toRomeDescentNexus OpsWits& Wagers Finally,as we’ve done for the other years, we’ll accept nominations for any other 2005games.  Any designs that get a nominationand a second will be added. I’ll letfolks make nominations and seconds for the next couple of days and will thenset up the ballot sometime on Wednesday and open up the voting.  I’m going to keep doing this as long as folksare interested, so let’s keep on keepin’ on!

It was a very weak year for me as well, Jimmy. 2004 was amazing for me (and many others), but perhaps not coincidentally, both '03 and '05 were pretty bad. The only '05 title that I love is Louis XIV. Not really sure what three games I'll vote for.
