Hokey smokes, weâre back at the turn of the century! So crawl out from your Y2K bunkers and vote like itâs 1999! Plus one!
Back in olâ â00, we nominated 25 games, although I only have vote totals on the top 10 finishers. Here are the nominees, in alphabetical order:
Acquire
Aladdin's Dragons
Attila
Babel
Battle Cry
Carcassonne
Carolus Magnus
Cartagena
Citadels
Dia de los Muertos
Empires of the Ancient World
Hera & Zeus
Ivanhoe
La Citta
Lord of the Rings
Merchants of Amsterdam
Metro
Star Wars: Queen's Gambit
Taj Mahal
The Princes of Florence
Traumfabrik
Way Out West
Web of Power
Zapp Zerapp
ZERTZ
I guess the reason Acquire made the list was because of the Avalon Hill version (the one with the yellow box cover featuring the giant businessman yanking on a skyscraper) that was released in 1999. Looks like we were a little more lax with our eligibility requirements back then. Just use your judgment of whether this game is worthy of your vote or not.
I also found these well ranked games that didnât make the original list. If anyone seconds them, weâll toss them into the mix as well:
Battle Line
Blokus
Hamsterrolle
Java
Meuterer
Finally, as usual, weâll accept nominations for any other 2000 games. Any designs that get a nomination and a second will be added to the list.
Make any nominations and seconds that you want for the next couple of days. The vote will begin on Thursday. Iâll let it run until next Monday and then announce the results. So letâs recapture that millennium spirit and make with the suggestions!
